Bluehost Review - The Best Web Site Hosting Service Around?

If you have already checked out my review of Hostmonster then this review of Bluehost may be a slight waste of your time reading as they both offer near identical features and performance. The reason for this is that they are both owned by the same company.
Thanks to this my opinion is virtually the same - you will be satisfied if you use their service but they are not the best web site hosting service around.
BLUEHOST FEATURES
Bluehost have many features you would expect of a good reliable shared hosting provider. As their control panel they use the best available in cPanel. Unlimited domains can be hosted on the one account or you could simply use sub domains which are also available in large quantity.
SSH (shell access) is also allowed which is great for more advanced and you can do plenty of customization with everything else. They also include DDOS protection and have a good back up service in place.
BLUEHOST PERFORMANCE
As usual the meaningless 99.9% uptime guarantee is in place and as usual it isn’t lived up to. Their actual uptime is nothing to complain about however as it is still over 98% which is still very good and should mean you have very few problems. Also any downtime encountered was always dealt with quickly with the longest downtime I encountered being just 6 minutes.
BLUEHOST VALUE
Like most affordable website hosting services the only question of whether they are value for money is whether they are reliable and Bluehost certainly are. Their pricing is $6.95 a month ( 2 year contract) or $7.95 a month ( 1 year contract) which for unlimited domain hosting is very good. You should note a 3 and 6 month contract option is there but for these they charge a set up fee so if this is what you are looking for ( perhaps because your not sure hosting your own site is right for you) then Hostgator are a far better choice.
CUSTOMER SUPPORT
24/7 toll free support, online chat support, support tickets and email support are all offered and are reasonable enough, although they aren’t the quickest support you’ll ever encounter. The knowledge base on offer is o.k but again nothing special. The best part of their customer service is actually the addition of an active forum where you will usually get help quicker than through the actual customer support.
BLUEHOST REVIEW CONCLUSION
I seriously couldn’t turn around and tell you not to use Bluehost as a hosting provider as they are a better than average provider. They wouldn’t be my personal recommendation and they certainly aren’t the best web site hosting service around but they do offer affordable and reliable shared hosting.
